USO

Gene entertains the GIs overseas as a USO volunteer, circa 1944. The dark green woolen dress uniform features a khaki shirt, necktie, leather purse and lace up shoes, garrison cap, hose and earrings. Her warm chestnut hair is styled in a bouncy, girl-next-door flip. Designed by Doug James, both the costume and researched biographical story are officially endorsed by the USO/Camp Shows Inc.

Gene receives a star's welcome in this crisply tailored, California-blue suit trimmed in matching "fur." With silk rose bouquet, heart-shaped hat, "fur" muff, gold and rhinestone jewelry, gloves, hose and shoes. Also includes a Gene "billboard" (shown) perfect for display. Circa 1941. Savannah

Gene stars in an epic family saga set in the Old South. She charms the gentlemen in this green and dusty peach gown sprigged with lace, ribbons and roses. Includes earrings, rosette hairpins, shoes, hose. Her beaus compose odes to the dark beauty of her rich brown hair, falling in coquettish curls. Designed by Katie McHale of Santa Barbara, California, a winner of the Young Designers of America Competition.

Twilight Rumba

A famous singer is surprised by her husband on their fifth anniversary, as he recreates the night they met. Twilight Rumba is a dazzling lavender sarong-style ensemble, circa 1948. The long-sleeved midriff top features intricate beading that cascades down the skirt. Includes Gene's first hair comb, with lavender flower and intricate beading; strap sandals; earrings; and hosiery.
